"Kate Gosselin spent her 35th birthday Sunday thousands of miles away from her eight kids rehearsing for Dancing With the Stars in L.A.
On Saturday, Kate spent a large portion of the day apart from her children as well, even though she was at their $1.2 million Pennsylvania home.
At 8:30 a.m., bodyguard Steve Neild, whom Jon Gosselin has accused of having an affair with his ex, and Neild's wife, Gina, arrived with a large gift for Kate.
Kate's DWTS partner Tony Dovolani showed up around 9:30 a.m. for a three-hour practice session in the basement.
Just after lunchtime, Steve took Kate to a Toyota dealership to drop off her $64,000 Land Cruiser to be serviced. Gina stayed at home to watch the kids, who "ran around like they haven't been outside in a month," an observer sniped.
At 1 p.m., a limo arrived to pick up Steve and Kate to take them to the airport to head to Los Angeles to tape DWTS. The show airs live every Monday.
Kate's action-packed rehearsal day is a far cry from her 34th birthday, which she spent alone while husband Jon took his former mistress Deanna Hummel, a 23-year-old teacher, snowboarding in Utah. "
What Meredith Viera had to say on Gosselin can also be found here
"People should lay off Kate Gosselin, the ex-reality-show mom of eight who has been accused of neglecting her brood to further her career. So says “Today” show titan Meredith Vieira, who once famously quit her stint on “60 Minutes” to devote more time to her family.
“I think that’s baloney. I can’t speak for her, but I find it troublesome when other people weigh in on whether she’s a good mother. What do they know? Are they in her life?” Vieira, 56, told the Track.
“She may be trying to carve out a niche for herself. Her show went away, so it’s sort of what she does now. If she could create something on TV, then God bless her, why not?”
Vieira, a Providence native who hosts the daytime quiz show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” doesn’t get why everyone hates on the former star of “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” who split with her baby daddy in a hail of tabloid headlines last year.
“I never got the impression that she’s a bad mother,” Meredith said. “I don’t think that show indicates that at all.”
Sadly, Gosselin, who is competing on the new season of “Dancing With the Stars,” won’t be on hand this week when Vieira and “Millionaire” launch “DWTS” week today. However, pros Cheryl Burke, Mark Ballas, Lacey Schwimmer, Chelsie Hightower, Derek Hough and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, judges Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba, and host Tom Bergeron will be featured on “Millionaire.”
Vieira said she’s looking forward to meeting Hough - “a phenomenal dancer” - and this season she’s rooting for “star” Evan Lysacek, the gold-medal figure-skater.
“I got to know him during the Olympics . I came in really rooting for him,” she said.
And although she’s a “DWTS” fan, Vieira said she won’t be strapping on the dancing shoes anytime soon, especially after seeing “the fear” in Kate Gosselin’s eyes.
“When I saw Kate, who I happen to think is a nice person, and she did OK, not great, and the judges told her, ‘You’re the one person here who’s neither a dancer or an actor, so you’re really starting from scratch,’ I started relating to that. I saw the fear in her eyes.”
But Vieira’s no stranger to tough judgment. The Tufts University grad was recently written up on the Wall Street Journal’s list of Harvard University rejects.
“At that moment you think it’s going to alter your life permanently,” she said. “In my case, I know that, had I gone to Harvard, what I do today wouldn’t have been on my radar screen. It’s a fluke that I ended up in this business. The guy who came to Tufts and inspired me, he wouldn’t have been teaching at Harvard.”
What Kelly Osbourne told Us News is here
"Kelly Osbourne thinks everyone is being too hard on Kate Gosselin for competing on Dancing With the Stars.
"Yeah, it's going to be hard because she has eight kids, but at the same time, people really need to give her a break," Osbourne, who came in third place last season, told UsMagazine.com at the Odd Molly flagship store opening in West Hollywood.
"She has eight kids to feed, remember that," Osbourne, 25, continued. "And if she is going to take a job, why not do one that is fun? She is going to have a blast!"
Osbourne says she thinks Gosselin, 34 and partner Tony Dovolani could take home the disco ball trophy.
"I think she has got a good chance of winning," Osbourne said.
"But I am team Louis [Van Amstel]," she adds, referring to her former partner, "and Neicy Nash. I love her. She is great!"
Last week, Kendra Wilkinson told Us she could "never leave" her 3-month-old baby, Hank, at home to compete on the ABC hit.
Kate's ex husband Jon is also disgruntled about her decision to appear on the show, Us Weekly has reported, and her kids are "depressed" and "acting out."
"They were asking 'When is Mommy coming home?'" an insider told Us."
